OK, So I have been slacking with my posts, but here's some of the highlights of my training since my last entry.
Exhilarating 3 mile bike ride.
5K run on a treadmill in NC after a gluttonous southern bar-b-que dinner
Yoga , Pilates , and crossover classes a minimum of twice a week, and up to 4 days a week.
Power mowing of the lawn AGAIN.
OK, so those are the only notable workouts I have done since the last entry, there are others , but they were trivial.

So on to this week.
Yesterday, I did a power pilates class for an hour, and got a heck of a strength workout, and today, i felts it...but in a good way. Its amazing how you can target your core when you do exercises in proper form. :-)

Today I headed to the pool and did 24 laps in the pool (24 x 25 M = 600 M = 0.37 Miles). Not bad. I shut down the workout early because I had a sinus head ache. 750 Meters is what is needed for my Tri, so as predicted I am not concerned with the swim portion. I could definitely stand to add some speed, so I think I am going to start practicing the 1st brick workouts. What that means is swim 750 meters (30 laps) followed directly by a bike ride )ideally 12 miles as I will be doing in the tri, but will probably start with 6 miles.

Sunday, my cardio consisted of mowing the lawn. I know calling it cardio sounds silly, but I stood purposefully and engaged my abs. I also tried to keep a lively pace. As a result, I actually felt those ol' abs a bit later in the day.
So Monday, I knew I was going to have a hectic week, so I carved an hour out of my calender to go to a yoga class.
Today I ensured that I could managed my food intake despite being a travel day, flying to Raleigh, NC. I had a nice healthy bowl of oatmeal for breakfast, and took a mini lunchables in my carry-on as my lunch mid flight. This worked out very well, except, I then waited too long for dinner and basically gorged. I went to a real southern BBQ place and has pulled pork, ribs and a double helping of collard greens. It was sooooo tasty, so I let all that settle for ~ 2 hrs and went down and ran a 5K on the treadmill. Not my fastest, but I managed to burn ~ 500 calories, which made me feel a little less guilty. The hotel has a gorgeous lap pool, and I was fully intending on making this a swim training week, but alas the perfect pool, is not scheduled to open for the season till May. This did however give me a good idea for my training.....utilize hotel pools for free. :-) So now I am totally beat, and am off to shower as tomorrow is a big long day.

Workouts this week and the introduction of the Bike

So in addition to the walking (and slow jogs) last week I started doing Yoga. A local studio offered free classes all week. (www.yogaonwhitney.com) This place is great! I have done yoga on a few other occasions, but always found the instructors and participants far too serious. Yoga should be peaceful, and other places left me stressed out, because I was not good enough , or didn't know the yogi rules. This place allows you to chill out and even *gasp* ask questions. Last week I did 5 or 6 classes. On two occasions I even did two classes back to back. I felt great and slept like a baby. This week I signed up for 16 classes and did my first one last night.

Monday the bike I ordered for this great journey arrived, and keeping with tradition since I was a little kid, I rode it home from the bike shop. 2.5 miles was hard work! I had not ridden in almost 10 years, and totally forgot how much work hills can be. I now clearly know what my greatest challenge is going to be, but it will be worth it. I love my new bike : Cannondale Quick Féminine 4.

Today , after dinner I took the bike out again and did a nice 2.4 mile ride. When I started, my butt hurt and I was huffing, then I got in the groove, and felt good. One BIG hill got me good, but I pushed through it. I was very proud of myself.

Monday : Bike 2.5 Mi
Tuesday : Yoga 1 hr
Wednesday : Bike 2.4 Mi
Thursday :
Friday : Yoga Dance 1 hr
Saturday :
Sunday : Lawn Mowing : 45 Min

The game plan

So in preparation for my wedding (June 11, 2011) I have started to diet and exercise. Approximately 10 weeks ago I began by changing my diet. I started following weight watchers. In doing so I have lost an average of 2 lbs a week since inception. Along the way I reconnected with my girlfriends from high school and we began taking walks 2-3 times a week. We started with shorter 1 mile walks and soon learned we could easily do a 5 K walk. I even started going for walks when my friend were unavailable.

Now jump forward, during one of our walks I came up with a crazy idea....why not set a goal like a 5K , and one friend joked...why not a triathlon.
The thought stuck in my head , and I started to realize I could jog a 5K (~11 minute mile), and started looking around for a good 5 K and run across information on Triathlons. Did you know that there are different types of triathalons? I didn't! So my new goal was set , I would do a Sprint Distance Traithalon. (1/2 Mile Swim, 12 Mile Bike Ride , 5K Run) . My goal is set , and I am all regsitered. I will complete a Woman's Triathlon on September 12, 2010 in Farmington, CT. This blog will be my public diary of taking my overweight 35 year old body and coming back to my glory.
